Post World of Warcraft Addiction Addons

By Starets Sayas of Farstriders

Once you're over World of Warcraft addiction but have decided you still want to play some, you find yourself dealing with a certain disorientation. Why am I in Stormwind? Did I finish my business here? Where should I go next?

Don't worry, it happens to all of us. When you are always logged on, its easy to pick up the pieces from last session. But when days or weeks go by in between, we all need some assistance.

Back in the addicted phase, I almost considered it cheating to have to resort to great sites like thottbot.com and wowhead.com. Now they are my first line of reference. I don't have time to wander around lost. Tell me where it is and what I need to do. Thottbot and wowhead do that. (To be fair, there are other sites that fulfill the same role. Those are just the two I use.)

I've found two in game addons that I think help even more: Questhelper and Carbonite Quest. They do almost the same thing. So try them both and use the one you like best.

Either one keeps track of your (or your group's) current quests and helps determine the most efficient route in completing them. As you go they keep all informed of the progress in reaching the various objectives.

Both addons will lead you astray on sometimes. But both work correctly most of the time. I think Carbonite benefits from having the Cartographer addon installed as well. Questhelper you can pretty much all by itself.

The main reason I use Carbonite instead of Questhelper is that Carbonite shows you a path of where you've been lately. Its great for backtracking to get out of dungeons and so on.

I use the paid version of Carbonite but the free one is a great tool too just without some of the optional features. As far as I know, Questhelper is still free but I think I recall reading that they might have a paid version coming out as well.

I've heard there are addons that take the idea one step further. They not only guide you through the quests you have, but help you decide which quests and quest paths are worth completing. I can see the value in that but since I'm one of those people that enjoys the trip as much as the destination, I've never explored them further.

Do you know about other time saving addons? Tell me about them. You can either write them up yourself for me to post at myworldofwarcraftaddiction.com (giving you credit of course) or alert me to them and I'll write something up. I've already thought of a couple more addons that I'll be writing up soon.
